The Willoughbys

A little sweet Facebook friend had a status wishing for a life free of Willoughbys. This would only have meaning to my kindred spirits out there who have read Sense and Sensibility. I could not help but think I would not be 19 again for the world. The Willoughbys are so attractive they draw you in like honey to a bee. You think you have found "The One." The One that gets you, the one who will never break your heart...only to find out that Willoughby is selfish, using you to pass the time or distract him from the monotony of his life, Willoughby has expensive habits and tastes, and just like Willoughby, he will realize what a great thing he passed on later...and unfortunately, just like Willoughby, he will not die of a broken heart. He won't have a perfectly unhappy marriage...Oh, my sweet Jane Austen...you hit the nail on the head with the character Willoughby, he breaks most of our hearts at some point in our lives...and most of us, don't have a Colonel Brandon available when we come to our senses.

First Game

M has been wanting to play soccer for the past 3 years. He has talked about little else since H played 3 years ago. This year we got him signed up and he was one excited little boy. He couldn't wait for practice (his coach never showed up, which concerned me, thunder and lightning struck 20 minutes after practice was supposed to start and it didn't look like this soccer thing was going to work out).

One of the player's dad suggested another practice on Friday night...this practice took place and M glowed.

Saturday morning was the first game...M was dressed by 6 a.m. in his uniform. He bounced off the walls until it was time to go. We could barely get him to eat. This is his first game. (By the way, he scored the first and last goal for his team, he was proud)

This video shows the Proud M in action. Unfortunately, the video shows the other team scoring...which they did a lot.

So Simple

Today, I fell in love. I had to run and pick up M's uniform shirt and of course, the shop was still closed. However, the optimist in me decided this would be a good time to give my patronage to Kenny Mango's Coffee Shop. I heard from my coffee snob daughter that it was a good place but here is the real question...how is their tea?

I sauntered in and felt the irritation over the closed shop dissipate with the sound of Claire de Lune, the soothing atmosphere...and then, just about leaped for joy with the sight of the Mighty Leaf Tea bags. Ah, love, so simple.

Now, if we could just get a different clerk, he had a bit of an attitude...kind of snobby...I should know...I have on occasion been called a "Tea Snob."

Church Program

Our Little People have been busy on Wednesday nights and tonight was their last evening before school starts. We were treated to a little singing, a little recitation, and a few goofy parents...oh, and some ice cream sandwiches.

Videos coming tomorrow, I need to go to bed. Sleep tight y'all.

One Summer Dream

Deep waters flow out to the sea
They never needed you or me
One summer dream, one summer dream
Blue Mountains high and valley low
I don't know which way I should go
One summer dream, one summer dream
Warm summer breeze blows endlessly
Touching the hearts of those who feel
One summer dream, one summer dream
Bird on wing goes floating by
But there's a teardrop in his eye
One summer dream, one summer dream
One summer dream, one summer dream

PS

These two wouldn't post so they are a post script to the blog below...

So I'll Have to Say Goodbye to the Summer

Six more days until school starts...and this is how we're spending the last few days...kind of like the first few days...with a Wench Fest...today's festivities included adult beverages. What can I say? Today was a really hard day and for the first time in my entire life...I had alcohol at 3 in the afternoon. I drank at the pool. I had a glass container at the pool. I had wine with a screwtop lid...I took a picture...I didn't touch the two glasses of tea I had stashed in my cooler...did I mention I had a really rough day?

Here are some pics of my favorite Wenches and their offspring tend to pop up in a few...oh...and there is me with my offspring...did I mention they go back to school in 6 days 9hours and 6 minutes?

Photo Opportunity

August 1, 2009

I read somewhere you should take a picture with your children once a month so they will have something to remember you by (probably a really good idea given had these little angels at 40 and 42. Their memories of me will be in a wheelchair)...only problem? I am the photographer. My solution...let the kids take the picture...they like playing with the camera...I have lots of pictures of the floor and closet doors taken by them so here is today's picture for the month of August.

As you can see, for the moment, Hannah is a little better photographer.
