My Little Redneck Vacation

It has been forever since I posted  on here so it is time to play catch up!!!

Spring Break was last week and guess where we went? West Monroe, LA. Yes, Duck Dynasty mania has gripped my husband. We went to the Duck Commander Building, bought a Mallard Duck Call for Matthew, ate at Haskell's Donuts (owned by John Godwin's brother BTW) bought tea at The Cornerhouse Coffee Shop, rode go karts at Excalibur...and a non-DD event was going to the Black Bayou (advertised canoe rentals but they were nowhere to be found, must be too early in the season) and I have to tell you, I'm okay with that because that was black water and it has American Alligators. I didn't have to break into a sweat thinking about falling into the water and finding what lies beneath the surface. It was really pretty though.

Now let me explain a few things about DD. The Duck Commander Building is not located in a remote area, it is in an industrial area with a few houses across the road...one is for sale and I am POSITIVE it is for sale because they are tired of all the tourists. The place is PACKED with DD Pilgrims. There is no way any member of the DD Family could even walk in or out of the building without a riot taking place. It is like a Redneck Grace Land.

I took a picture for one lady by the DD RV and she said she had just (accidentally) went to Phil and Miss Kay's house. Jas was in the front yard with one of the grandkids. She said that she googled Duck Commander Building and that is where it took her. I don't think so...I Googled it and it took me to the actual Building, I think a bit of stalking was involved. However, the house on DD is where Phil and Miss Kay live...down a long road next to a lake according to our stalker...

Now to get me on this Redneck Vacation, my husband threw in Vicksburg. He knew this would get me to go along for the ride. The Battlefield is a lot larger than I envisioned...It is beautiful. The Parks Department  has done a really good job taking care of this. I do have to say, if you ever go, stop at The Visitors Center first and get the Tour CD, we did the drive without it and then went to The Visitor's Center...so I bought the CD and we did the drive a second time. Yep, a car full of blondes gets a blonde result.

I hope you enjoy the pictures!

I don't know if this is true...but I like honey and I like cinnamon so, why not? What can it hurt? I'll probably take the lazy route and put the cinnamon and honey on my morning toast...

Figure Skating Competition

H had her first skating competition and she did really well. She received 3rd place for her compulsory skate and 2nd place for her freestyle. She had so much fun, I believe she regrets not signing up for all 3 competitions in our area.

My Head is Spinning

Big Sigh...I'm taking a break from pictures. I realized the other day that I had never uploaded the pictures from Christmas to Snapfish for prints. I've been working on that all day...and yesterday. My head hurts from the uploading. I found some videos that also need to be uploaded...another sigh...I'm so behind...And I am not sure if I took any pictures of H on her birthday. She was sick on her birthday so it was a rather quiet day. Tomorrow is M's birthday so I need to get my good mom act together and make sure I take pictures and UPLOAD them and ORDER prints...I really think I like the old way of pulling the film out of the camera, dropping it in the photo box at the grocery store and picking them up a few days later. My camera holds hundreds of pictures, so I am lazy and if I manage to get them onto the computer, I still need to upload them to the photo site to order the prints since it is so much cheaper doing that than buying ink...plus my printer is weird and won't print photos...we still haven't figured the problem on that yet...drives me crazy...if I need to print out a shipping label, I have to copy the image put it in a word document and then print from there...the kids' class newsletter is filled with blanks where all the fun images go...you get the idea.

I think I will take a break from laundry for the moment and go fold the clothes, check the pot roast and then make a cup of tea...I'm done with the computer stuff.

OH! Maybe I will read The Paradise by Emile Zola...it is my new love...Amazon.UK suggested it with the DVD series. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the DVD set and it is based on the book but they sure changed a lot of stuff...but that is okay because now it is like two different stories with the only thing being in common is a store in the 1860s and the main character being named Denise. I was going to insert a picture but I guess I can't download the image..I hate when computers are smarter than me...it isn't like I am pirating, I just want to share the book/DVD...oh well, it's the BBC's loss...free promotion.

The Stick

My kids love to go to our local hockey games...they like Chuck a Puck. Pay $5, get 6 rubbery pucks and hurl them for the target in the center of the ice and the person with the closest puck wins a prize. Last Saturday night, we went to the UAH Chargers game, got the pucks and the kids waited anxiously for the break between periods. Towards the end of the second period, Greg saw a co-worker who has a son that just started playing hockey in the "Learn to Play" program and took Matthew to meet him. They were busy talking and it was Chuck a Puck time...you only get 30 seconds to throw the pucks. I was screaming at M to get his attention and he could not hear me...Finally, at about 5 seconds left, M scurried through the people to throw his 3 pucks, his last puck was thrown right when the buzzer went off. He started screaming he won, Greg said he won, and you could not find one happier boy if you tried. Then the judge went out to the center to call the winners names...four names were called and I began to panic that the judge picked another winner since M wrote his name on the puck and he has a kind of chicken scratch thing going right now. Finally, the judge said "And the grand prize winner is..." Yep, he won. He got the autographed goalie stick. You wanna talk about chicken scratch? You should try and read the names on that stick...I can only make out the players' numbers.

One of the boys on M's hockey team is a coach for UAH and he is going to ask him to autograph it also...he used to play professional hockey for the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadians and Chicago Blackhawks..M is so so so happy.

It was so sweet all the people around us were cheering him and patting him on the back.

Oh, the best part of the game for me was sitting with M...he explained the game and strategy to me for all the game...my heart was so full. I love that boy!!!

Pictures Pictures Pictures!!!

Ugh, I just went through 500 photos on a disc one of the parents gave me (and I have one more disc to go...) Here are the three best I found of Matthew...I think there were 50 pictures out of the 500 but most were his back or his leg...I am so glad he has gold tape on his stick, it makes it easy to find him when playing AND in the pictures!!!
